IVF or In-vitro Fertilization

What is the Process of IVF?
Step 1
Pre IVF Assessment
The very first step begins with consulting the fertility doctor or infertility specialist in Delhi, India, getting all the recommended tests and investigations done.
To begin the IVF treatment, male sperm test (semen analysis) and ovarian monitoring are done regularly.
Step 2
Ovarian Stimulation
Ovaries are stimulated by giving Hormone injections into the ovaries with the aim to produce more eggs. It starts from day two of the menstruation cycle to promote the growth of follicles containing the eggs.
Ultrasonography and blood investigations are done at regular intervals to monitor the growth of the eggs.
Step 3
Egg Collection
After 8 to 12 days of ovarian stimulation, an HCG injection is given for the final maturation of the eggs rupturing the follicles, after the fertility doctor finds the enough sized eggs.
Now after 34 to 36 hours of giving the trigger shot (HCG Injection), the ruptured follicle is collected. This egg retrieval process is carried out in daycare under local anesthesia with Ultrasound Guided Aspiration.
Once eggs are retrieved, the embryologist processes the eggs in the ART laboratory.
Step 4
Sperm Collection
A fresh sample of semen is extracted and analyzed which is then processed to be used in the IVF Treatment.
Step 5
Fertilization
Multiple retrieved eggs from the female’s ovaries and the sperm sample is taken from the male partner are fertilized in the laboratory.
After 16-18 hours, it is monitored if the fertilization has been successful. A fertilized egg is called an embryo; which is then cultured in an incubator for three to five days to check their growth.
Step 6
Embryo Transfer
The embryologist selects the best embryo and based on the quality, quantity, and growth of the cultured embryos, are implanted into the uterus of the female partner.
Step 7
After Transfer
Once the embryo is transferred, the fertility specialist may prescribe certain medicines to enhance the success of embryo implantation. After 2 weeks of IVF procedure, the pregnancy test is done to confirm the pregnancy.
After conception, the baby grows in the mother’s womb just like a normal pregnancy.
