It is a birth defect in males where urinary opening is not at the usual location of penis. It is somewhere beneath the usual opening. It is a urinary abnormality which occurs in 3 out of 100 newly born boys. Paediatrician at the time of birth finds out the abnormality and refers to the Urologist who is expert in managing cases of Hypospadias.

Few males grow up with Hypospadias and few live their whole life with this abnormality.

Clinical features/symptoms of Hypospadias are as follows:

  • Urinary opening at the unusual site of the penis.
  • As a result, abnormal spraying while urination.
  • Penile curvature which becomes significant with the age.
  • Hood like the appearance of foreskin

DOES HYPOSPADIAS AFFECT MANHOOD?

Hypospadias is a common birth defect in males where the boy’s urinary opening is not positioned at the normal place. Other complications such as downwards curvature, spraying of urine, hooded foreskin appearance are associated with Hypospadias.

Possible treatment in case of Hypospadias is Surgery. However, the results of hypospadias surgery entirely depends upon the skills of the Urologist. Our Urologists at Medical treatment centre are skilled and trained in reconstructive urology.

In most cases of Hypospadias, patients have the fear of deforming the appearance of their penis, as the surgery is complex in itself. However, men no longer need to live with the fear of ridicule over cosmetic changes in his penis after the hypospadias surgery.

It is seen that boys who undergo surgery at young age between 15 months and 18 months have high success rate in comparison to the men who go for the surgery in their later life.  But generally parents of kids experience the fear of deformation of their son’s penile appearance in his adulthood.

Parents whose son is diagnosed with hypospadias have basic question that the surgery done at young age can affect his manhood so they let their child grow with hypospadias. We encourage such parents to consult reconstructive urologist once your son is 15 months old.

In addition, it is advised not to circumcise the kid if diagnosed with hypospadias, as sometimes in the surgery, that foreskin is required.Parents should lessen their worries as if an expert urologist performs the surgery, it does not affect the manhood of your kid at all. We advise parents to keep a regular follow up with the urologist after the surgery as most cases are completely treated in stages.
